Congratulations are in order for the extraordinary Shakib Al Hasan, who has been honoured with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the month of March 2023!
Shakib has justifiably earned this prized accolade as a result of his superb performances across the board for Bangladesh, despite the fact that Kane Williamson and Asif Khan provided him with stiff competition.
Shakib excelled for Bangladesh in the one-day international series against England by becoming the player with the most runs scored and the most wickets taken.
Because of his outstanding 71-ball 75 and a four-for in the same game, he was awarded the Player of the Match trophy in the team’s lone win, which earned him the right to collect the Player of the Match honour.
Shakib then assisted in leading Bangladesh to a record 3-0 T20I series sweep against the team that currently holds the title of Men’s T20 World Champion.
He was instrumental in the outcome of each of these matches, claiming a wicket in each of them, and securing the victory in the first game with an unbroken score of 34 off of 24 balls.
But that was only the beginning of Shakib’s remarkable performances. When Ireland arrived to town, he turned in a performance that was nothing short of spectacular in the first one-day international, scoring 93 runs and winning the match.
In the second Twenty20 International (T20I), he led Bangladesh to another victory by smashing a quick-fire 38* off of just 24 balls before claiming an astonishing five wickets in the Powerplay.
Across all 12 matches he participated in during the month of March, Shakib amassed an impressive total of 353 runs scored and 15 wickets taken. It’s no surprise that he was chosen as Player of the Month for the second time in a row!
When it came time for Shakib to take the prize, he expressed his gratitude to the members of the jury who had voted for him as well as his admiration for the other exceptional cricket players who had outstanding performances during the month.
In addition to this, he brought attention to the outstanding performance of his team, adding that the accomplishments of his colleagues made it simpler for him to concentrate on his part in the endeavour and contribute.
